Shannon Brewery 5K
The race started at 9am. I had already picked up my packet the day before but it didn't look like packet pick up was too crazy on race day. They gave out wristbands that let you partake in the Shannon Brewery beverages post race. I wasn't sure how timing was going to be recorded because I didn't see anyone with a timing chip. So I figured it must be on my number somewhere. (Such a rookie!)
I got to see my fellow Dallas Athletes Ambassadors so that was fun, especially since I didn't know anyone else who signed up! Everyone I know that runs MUST sign up for it next year!
I ended up finishing 3rd in my age group with an overall time of 27:47, which was an 8:58 pace. I was totally shocked that I placed! I had to run home to get stuff done for the weekend and didn't stay for awards because I didn't think I would place. I totally missed out on the awesome beer bottle trophies that were given!! I did however stay long enough to enjoy a blonde brew, which was delicious.
St. Patricks Day Sprint Triathlon
We woke up at 5 to eat breakfast and pack up. I had already packed up my transition bag the night before with Gordon's help ;) Breakfast consisted of two mini english muffins with almond butter, a banana and an Ensure.
Swim time: 6:23
Coming out of the water and into transition, I struggled with my socks. I had rolled them to have them easily slide onto my wet feet but I slid one on upside-down which meant I had to take it off and then had to struggle to get the sock on unrolled. I was going to put on a jacket but figured I had wasted enough time so I went in just my Coeur kit.
Bike time: 43:18
The run went by fast! My legs felt good so I kept my pace up and didn't pay too much attention to my heart rate. I figured it was just three miles and my thinking was I can push for just 3 miles. Every time I looked at my pace I was hovering around 7-8 minute miles which I felt good about (I almost wondered if I should push back). The aide station was being supported by a local tri group (I can't remember their name!!) and they were awesome at cheering us on! An encouraging cheer can make all the difference!. I crossed the finish finding Matthew, his mom and my mom waiting for me :)
Run time: 24:41
Although I did miss second place by 25 seconds, which was a real kick in the pants because I bet my aero helmet would have closed that gap. Oh well!
